“I am beyond grateful for what St. John XXIII and the entire staff has done for my family. My kids would not be in the places they are if it weren’t for the dedication and love of the teachers and staff. THANK YOU ALL.”

With the addition of the Love Grows Greenhouse, we have enhanced our curriculum and educator resources to a level where a combination of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and/or math are taught cohesively and provide valuable real-world concepts for all students in grades Pre-3 – 8.
...
Hands-on experiences created by implementing a “living” greenhouse engages students in relevant, real-world experiences and applications where they investigate scientific phenomena, engage in collaboration and discussion, and develop models or explanations in order to arrive at solutions. Students take on the roles of scientists, engineers, horticulturists and even nutritionists to experience many real-world applications related to agriculture, sustainability and nature. These hands-on applications provide relevant contexts through which students develop critical problem solving skills.

In addition to the academic benefits, students gain life skills: caring for God’s creation(s), collaborative teamwork to ensure successful outcomes, critical thinking strategies to determine the best possible solutions, self-discipline and a deep sense of responsibility for the entire community. The project is a way to integrate so many things that students are learning in all classes. It turns book learning into nurturing curiosity. It takes them from “show it” to “do it”.

Meet School Resource Officer (SRO) Officer Bergin. Officer Bergin has been with the Port Washington Police Department for 23 years, full-time SRO for the past 3 years. Officer Bergin has trained through the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), implementing the “triad” ...concept where responsibilities are divided amongst three areas: public safety educator, mentor/informal counselor, and law enforcement officer. The SRO assignment is unique within the law enforcement profession. Not only are they law enforcement officers, but they are also mentors, counselors and educators who work hard to create relationships with our youth, school officials, and parents to keep our schools safe. Officer Bergin is a valuable member of the PWPD and the Port Washington-Saukville School District & SJ23. The work he does in the schools is immeasurable!

Our third grade students successfully convinced us to embrace the joy of amusement parks, cherish our loved ones, and even consider the practicality of expanding our basements during their persuasive speeches today! Not only did they showcase their ability to articulate persuasive arguments, but ...they also demonstrated growing confidence in addressing larger audiences. We believe that these early experiences in public speaking are invaluable, providing a solid foundation for their future communication skills.
