With the addition of the Love Grows Greenhouse, our STEAM curriculum has grown into a living laboratory where students in Pre-K through 8th grade explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math in an integrated, hands-on environment.

Students take on the roles of scientists, engineers, horticulturists, and nutritionists as they investigate plant growth, sustainability, and real-world applications in agriculture and nutrition. These experiences foster critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility for God’s creation. Students move beyond the textbook, transforming curiosity into action.

Our gardening program also emphasizes service and community impact. This year, students in our Gardening Elective with Mr. Chilinski grew and donated over 100 pounds of fresh produce—including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and salad greens—to local food pantries and the school community. Through this project, students learn the value of stewardship, collaboration, and Catholic Social Teaching, seeing firsthand how their efforts nourish families and strengthen our community.

The greenhouse and STEAM experiences at SJ23 turn learning into exploration, creativity, and meaningful impact, preparing students for a lifetime of curiosity, innovation, and service.
